You might assume our name is a reference to the legendary Mandrake. We certainly don't mind this association; on the contrary, we feel it adds a touch of magic or mystery to the name.
But the real story is quite different. For months, we discussed names and logos whenever the moment seemed right, but nothing truly clicked. Nothing felt like "us."
The answer found us unexpectedly during a trip to Lijiang. Walking past one of the local cafes, we saw a sign featuring a strange figure. To be honest, we still don't know what it was actually supposed to be—perhaps just a quirky person? But to our eyes, it looked exactly like a root vegetable with an open mouth—as if it were letting out a cute yell.
That ambiguous image became the direct inspiration for our logo design, and the phrase "Screaming Root" instantly popped into our minds. It was spontaneous, weird, and exactly what we were looking for. That little screaming radish (or whatever it might be) gave us our face.
